Christchurch Youth Hub Evaluation Infrastructure (2025)

Project lead: Tony O’Connor

The Christchurch Youth Hub – Te Hurihanga o Rangatahi is a collaborative, youth-centred initiative designed to support rangatahi aged 10–25 in Ōtautahi to lead healthy, safe, and valued lives. Located in central Christchurch, the Hub brings together multiple services under one roof to offer holistic support - ranging from health and housing to education, employment, and wellbeing.

What’s Happening Now

The Hub is currently developing its evaluation infrastructure to better understand how young people experience services and what outcomes matter most to them. Led by Point & Associates, this work includes:

  • Consultation with services and youth;

  • A shared logic model and theory of change;

  • A youth-friendly survey tool to capture self-identified outcomes;

  • Service mapping to understand how providers collaborate and complement each other.

The evaluation is guided by principles of safety, respect, and meaningful engagement, with a strong emphasis on rangatahi voice - especially those who’ve experienced trauma or disadvantage.

Why It Matters

The Hub is more than a building - it’s a place of connection, identity, and possibility. Youth audits, interviews, and workshops have shown that when young people feel seen and heard, they’re more likely to engage, return, and thrive. The Hub’s inclusive approach celebrates ethnicity, culture, gender, and sexual orientation, and aims to reach those most in need.

As the Hub continues to grow, its commitment to positive youth development, data-informed service improvement, and collaborative care positions it as a model for youth support across Aotearoa.
