Cultural perspectives on Abuse of Older People (2023-25)
Project Lead: Tony O’Connor
This project involved working alongside WaiRangahu and GravitasOPG to explore how abuse of older people is understood and addressed across diverse ethnic groups in Aotearoa. It highlights cultural variations in conceptualisations of elder abuse, the barriers to its recognition and discussion, and the influence of systemic, historical, and structural factors. The research aimed to inform culturally appropriate prevention and response strategies tailored to the needs of Māori, Pacific peoples, South Asian, East Asian, and European/Pākehā communities.
