Ethnic Communities Violence Prevention Programme Evaluation (2025)

Project leads: Annalise Myers & Alex Woodley

The Ethnic Communities Violence Prevention (ECVP) Programme ran from July 2024 to June 2025, with evaluation conducted between November 2024 and April 2025. Funded by the Ministry of Social Development and aligned with Te Aorerekura, the programme aimed to prevent family and sexual violence (FVSV) in Aotearoa’s ethnically diverse communities.

The evaluation was guided by a developmental and participatory approach, grounded in the programme’s Theory of Change and MERL (Monitoring, Evaluation, Research, and Learning) framework. It prioritised cultural safety, trauma-informed practice, and ethical considerations such as informed consent, confidentiality, and voluntary participation.

Researchers Annalise Myers and Alex Woodley engaged with over 200 participants across 17 ethnic communities, who collectively spoke more than 20 languages. Data were primarily gathered through:

  • Online surveys and interviews with community partners (Phase One)

  • Site observations of programme delivery (Phase Two)

  • In-depth interviews and focus groups with community members and facilitators (Phase Three)

  • Thematic analysis to identify emerging outcomes and lessons (Phase Four)

This mixed-methods approach enabled the team to capture rich, context-specific insights while centering community voices and lived experiences.
