Anglican Trust for Women and Children Evaluation (2024)

Project lead: Jules Radford Poupard

The Anglican Trust for Women and Children (ATWC) has long been a cornerstone of support for wāhine and tamariki in Tāmaki Makaurau. In 2024, ATWC partnered with Point & Associates to evaluate and strengthen the impact of its residential programme at Granger Grove, which is a unique service supporting mothers and their children through complex life transitions.

This kaupapa was about listening deeply to the voices of women, staff, and community partners to understand what’s working, what’s changing, and what’s needed next. To do this, we designed a three-phase process to guide our mahi:

  • Phase One: A literature review to explore best practices in residential parenting support, trauma-informed care, and early intervention.

  • Phase Two: In-depth interviews with current and former residents, staff, and stakeholders - including Oranga Tamariki and community organisations.

  • Phase Three: Thematic analysis and shared insights, culminating in a report that speaks to four core outcomes, programme relevance, and a high-level cost comparison between residential care and alternative placements

The evaluation surfaced rich insights into the lived experiences of mothers navigating parenting, recovery, and systemic challenges. It highlighted the dedication of staff and the importance of consistent, trauma-informed models of care.
