Support Person Survey

A "support person" is a person who supported the victim-survivor during the FGC. They complete their own survey.

The support person receives:

A note about vouchers

Adults supporting a victim-survivor aged 15 and under to complete a survey

These documents are for adults who may support a victim-survivor aged under 15 years to do a survey. This is separate from a "support person", who is a person who supported the victim-survivor during the FGC (see the yellow box below for support person documents).

The person supporting a victim-survivor aged 15 and under to complete a survey receives:

Note that a person who supports someone to complete a survey may also claim a $50 voucher. This can be indicated at the end of the victim-survivor survey, and two $50 vouchers will be sent to the phone number provided at the end of the survey.

Adults supporting a victim-survivor aged 16 and over to complete a survey

Screening protocol

At least one member of the team supporting victims in Youth Justice FGC sexual violence cases should be responsible for screening, with input from other professionals if needed. If a victim has opted in to receive support from Project Restore, Project Restore should usually take the lead. If a victim has opted out of Project Restore support, Oranga Tamariki should usually take the lead.

Before inviting a victim to participate in the evaluation, the staff members/ responsible for survey recruitment consider whether participation is likely to be safe and appropriate.

Screening decisions should be based on the staff member's existing professional knowledge of the participant, including recent contact with the participant, information provided during care or support planning, discussions already held with the participant about their wellbeing and participation in the FGC process, and any known safety concerns. No additional assessment or questioning of participants is required for screening purposes. If the staff member is uncertain whether an exclusion criterion applies, they should consult with other professionals involved in supporting the participant before extending an invitation.

Those who complete the survey are offered a $50 voucher each at the end of the survey.

A maximum of $150 in vouchers is available per whānau or victim-survivor support group, regardless of the number of surveys completed.

For example, if a victim-survivor completes a survey with support from a parent, caregiver, trusted adult, advocate, and a support person also completes a survey, the total vouchers available for that group is up to $150.

Additional support people are welcome to complete their own surveys if they wish. However, completing additional surveys does not increase the voucher total beyond $150. This is because the vouchers are intended to acknowledge the shared contribution of the victim-survivor and their support network, rather than the number of surveys completed.
